Andras Schiff's Beethoven Sonata Lectures

Andras Schiff is a world-class pianist, currently performing and recording the complete cycle of all 32 Beethoven piano sonatas (CDs being released on ECM a few each year, 5 volumes so far). Over the next two years, he is performing the complete cycle in just a few cities around the world, including here in San Francisco. The first performance was last week, with future performances on October 14 (sonatas 5-8), April 6 (sonatas 9-11, 19-20), and April 13 (sonatas 12-15).

If you're interested in learning about the Beethoven sonatas, Schiff has recorded a set of excellent lectures about them, which are all available for free download courtesy of The Guardian. These lectures have made the music far more approachable and understandable for me, and I recommend them highly. His recordings of the sonatas themselves (recorded live in 2004) can be had for $6.99 per disc if you're a member of YourMusic.com.
