- Jennifer 8 Lee, The Fortune Cookie Chronicles: Good light history of Chinese food in America, by the NY Times reporter with my favorite middle name.
- Alan Moore & Dave Gibbons, The Watchmen: Not as good as I remember it being 20 years ago, with lots of bad gender politics I'd forgotten, and a distinct whiff of arrested adolescence. But still plenty groundbreaking. Still echoing through mainstream culture.
- Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Season 8, Vol. 1-2: Reminds me why Buffy was the greatest show on TV. Joss Whedon and the BtVS writers are telling Season 8 as a series of comics, collected in 4 volumes so far. I love these characters and this writing more than anything on TV since (yes, more than the Wire, more than BSG).

Books Q1 2009
What with having to get through the New Yorker and needing to find enough time for music, I don't read as many books as I'd like. But here's what I've read so far in 2009 (all free, courtesy of my local public library):
