Notes to my future Coachella self

Every year, I come back from Coachella meaning to make a list of tips for myself for next year. Yet I never get around to it. Until now.
  • Don't forget quality earplugs (Etymotics! or, better still, custom molded Westones). Bring an extra pair for the friend who doesn't have them.
  • Bring Advil. At least 6 per day. Otherwise, your back will not forgive you.
  • Croakies for the sunglasses would be nice. (well, not really crucial, more nice to have)
  • Download a few New Yorkers to your phone before you go. For those waits between sets.
  • (if you drive) Bring your Fastrak transponder. Helps with the toll lanes on 91 and other freeways.
  • (if you drive) Bring a car USB charger. Your phone will need it. And appropriate USB cables, as well as a mini-to-mini cable for the AUX audio input in the rental car.
  • Bring an extra battery for the phone. You will need it. Leave it in the locker.
  • Rent a locker. The smallest size is fine. Worth it for stashing the sweatshirt all day, and the hat and sunglasses at night.
  • As soon as you get to the polo fields on Friday, check out the main stage and figure out how they have the barriers arranged. Vertices closest to the stage are the sweet spots.
  • Book a massage for the day you return. Do this ahead of time.
UPDATE 2014:
  • Sunscreen and SPF lip balm.
  • Possibility of dust storms means you should bring a bandana.
  • (if you drive) Avoid parking lot 2A, because it forces you to walk through the car campers and into the slow security lines.
  • The good food is in the Terraces.
  • And go earlier next year! Many good sets are early!
UPDATE 2022:
  • Hotel shuttles have shorter lines than the non-hotel shuttles (like Tennis Gardens). Also, the JW Marriott Desert Springs is real nice. :-)
  • Don't fly into ONT. Yes, it's usually only 1 hour and 20 minutes, but post-festival traffic can make it 3+ hours and then you miss your flight.
  • Bring a proper N/KN/KF mask, since we all have them now. The dust is a real problem, especially at the end of the night, as everyone tromps to the shuttles and stirs up a huge plume.
  • Phone batteries have gotten so good that you probably don't need a backup battery anymore!
