Now with eleven (!) years of data. To the extent there's a change in there , it's the drop in CD purchases since I started subscribing to Google Play Music All Access (which now also includes YouTube Red for commercial-free YouTubing). What's going on here is that I'm listening to a lot more music, but I only buy the albums I really like on CD (partly for the sound quality, partly for the permanent addition to my music collection, which will survive any changes to subscription services). If you had the $10/month that I'm paying for subscription streaming music, the total amount I'm spending has been roughly constant.
The other big trend is the drop in albums I'm buying in digital download form, and the reduction in singles I'm buying. The former is the result of my not really buying into the high-rez music transition (the big numbers from 2006-09 were from my eMusic days, where you had a set number of use-'em-or-lose-'em monthly download credits). Yes, I can hear a difference in high-rez recordings, sometimes. But the inventory is so limited, and I'm so tired of buying the same old stuff over and over again. So I'm pretty much out for now. And when it comes to digital singles, it has to be a really great song for me to go to the trouble of downloading it on iTunes, since I already have it on my on-demand subscription service.
On the other hand, it was a pretty strong year for live music for me. In fact, there was a spell in there where I was a little tired of going out to concerts so often. Note to self, the sweet spot is probably somewhere between 28-32 shows per annum.
