Live Music: Q1, Q2, Q3 2021

Well, not much to report for Q1 and Q2, what with the pandemic dragging on. But finally, in Q3, we have concerts again! Never have I been more grateful to have live music in my life than after living without it for 18 months.

Most of the shows were outdoor, in Sonoma for Tycho, at the Greek for Sylvan Esso, James Blake, and St. Vincent. But two indoor shows happened! Tune-Yards at Bimbo's and Lucy Dacus at The Fillmore. I'm not sure how to rate any of these shows by pre-pandemic standards, because coming back after 18 months makes them all seem so special. But I'm going to give St. Vincent and Lucy Dacus the nod as my favorites of the Q3 batch.

Things are going to get a lot more musical in Q4, with the first festival since the Beforetimes (Austin City Limits), the return of the SF Symphony, and a generally jam-packed October. Till then, here's what I saw, my favorites in bold:

  • Tycho
  • Tune-Yards
  • Sylvan Esso (Local Natives opening)
  • James Blake
  • St. Vincent (Spoon opening)
  • Lucy Dacus
