After a slow "still-in-the-pandemic" beginning, the pace of live music has really accelerated this year. Seems like everyone is on the road. And that I fell into a ticket buying frenzy in the Spring, which is bearing fruit now. That explains the 15 shows this quarter (counting each festival day as one). That's down from the 19 last quarter, but still brings the year's total so far to 43. That's usually as many shows as I see in a year, so 2022 will definitely be a record-breaker!
Special mention for the Phoebe Bridgers show at The Independent, which she did after her Outside Lands set, sitting on a couch with her dog. Also for the amazing LCD Soundsystem sets, one at The Warfield and one at The Fox. One of the few bands I'll see twice in one week. Brad Mehldau's long-delayed solo show provided a great preview of his forthcoming all-Beatles record. And I'm glad I got to attend the first-ever Portola Festival, which I predict will be the last one, given all the noise complaints (in fairness, The Chemical Brothers were especially loud).
