UPDATE: I'm going to add Iron & Wine's "Who Can See Forever" soundtrack to the list. What a great live portrait of an amazing band (person?).
There are three clear choices for my best of 2023:
- boygenius, the record
- Lana Del Rey, Did You Know There's a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd
- Julie Byrne, The Greater Wings
As for the rest, I'm catching up and still considering candidates to round out the list. Iron & Wine, Sufjan Stevens, Jason Isbell, Indigo de Souza, and Sweeping Promises are all candidates in the running.
Favorite reissues are:
- Joni Mitchell, Archives Vol.3: The Asylum Years (1972-1975)
- Talking Heads, Stop Making Sense
