Well, the big story revealed by my 2024 music consumption data is just how few shows I saw this year. A 19-year low, in fact! I blame full time employment for the first 10 months, which meant I just didn't have the energy to go out on most weeknights. I'm looking forward to fixing this in 2025!
I also didn't have nearly as much time to listen or discover new music, which explains why there were so few CDs purchased or (Bandcamp) albums downloaded. In fact, 3 of those 4 CDs were my buying the 25th anniversary reissue of Kruder & Dorfmeister's iconic 1998 album, The K&D Sessions (which is still not available on Spotify, Qobuz, or TIDAL -- but apparently is on Apple Music?).
Speaking of music streaming services, I'm still subscribing to Spotify, TIDAL and Qobuz (those last two stream at lossless high resolution and integrate with Roon, my preferred music organizing software), which means the music industry is getting more of my money than ever before (keeping in mind that old school retailers took ~40-50% off the top of CD sales before the music industry sees a penny). As a happy Spotify user, I'm still hoping that Spotify (finally) launches its lossless tier in 2025 and that Roon integrates that into its software. Fingers crossed!
