History 7B: US History 1865-present

If, like me, you wish you'd had a better education in American history, you now have the chance to take UC Berkeley's intro to modern US history, History 7B via podcast, for free, at your leisure. The class, taught at UCB in 2006, is available from UC Berkeley as a podcast via "iTunes U".

It makes for a great refresher course, reminding me of lots of things I'd forgotten since high school. Professor Jennifer Burns is an engaging lecturer, even if she has a tendency to mispronounce words (I suspect she was one of those precocious children who learned much of her vocabulary from extensive reading). While she's not the measure of the fantastic Robert Greenberg on classical music, she's quite good, and probably better than most of the professors you had in college.

I've been amazed how much education you can fit in via podcasts/audio books, just by tuning in while driving.
