Well, thanks to the pandemic, there was no live music to attend in person after Q1. It's one of the things that I've missed most. I suspect it won't be returning until Q3 2021, at the very earliest. My next Coachella will likely happen in 2022 (although there is talk of rescheduling to Fall 2021).
While I tuned in to several live streaming events, I found them almost all uniformly disappointing. There's nothing like watching your favorite artist struggle with streaming technology and poor video quality while trying to play in their kitchen or bedroom. It's really not the same experience. The only "live" music bright spot was Nick Cave's spectacular solo concert film, Idiot Prayer.
So I leave 2020 having seen only 7 live shows, which is by far the smallest number since ... well, probably since high school? Sigh. But Kudos to Courtney Barnett for being the year's highlight for me, turning in a great live set in on a cold night in a small barn in Napa, in the Beforetimes.
