Books 2020

Total books read: 46, split between 39 fiction, 7 nonfiction (GoodReads stats are one short because it didn't count the pre-publication short story collection by Kim Magowan)

My favorites for the year:

  • Kazuo Ishiguru, The Remains of the Day: such a great, well executed book, simultaneously about so little, and yet also about so much.
  • Naomi Novik's Temeraire series (9 books): more than 3,500 pages, and I couldn't put any of them down. I will miss Laurence and Temeraire, and yet also think they will always be with me.
  • Marc Reisner, Cadillac Desert: required reading for all policy nerds, all water policy nerds, and basically anyone who lives in the Western US.
  • Charles C. Mann, 1493: Uncovering the New World Columbus Created: a fascinating exploration of the first centuries when all the continents were connected, and how it changed humanity on all of them.
