Well, 2025 has certainly been a busy live music year so far, making me hopeful that I'm back to a more typical pace than last year's dismal showing. Dialing back to a part-time work schedule is helping!
This quarter also marks my first time attending the Big Ears festival, held every year in Knoxville. It's hard to describe this festival, other than saying that it's an eclectic mix of "arty" music that would otherwise never all find its way to Tennessee. Standouts were DARKSIDE, Anohni & the Johnsons, Tarta Relena (Catalan singing duo), Jeff Parker's amazing ETA fourtet, Beth Gibbons, and a crazy mini-set with Alan Sparkhawk playing with Nels Cline and SUSS.
And April will bring my 15th Coachella!
As usual, favorites in bold.
